Content Management Websites

Web technology has increased at a rapid rate since the very first types of website, in the beginning you had a handful of pages to display important information and contact details but not much else.

Back then though, internet speeds were painfully slow and as both PC technology and Broadband Internet made advances so did the 'web. Nowadays it is as important to get your website looking as appealing to a visitor as possible, your website is the modern day equivalent of window dressing in a shop and it gives off an impression of both the company and their associated product, an amateur looking website may just send your customers looking for the next available supplier.

Shuttle forward to today's internet and you are expected to offer a plethora of function and information, we literally soak up the internet now, with smartphones dominating our lives and email becoming the most used for of communication. Content Management Systems - or CMS for short - help with this issue. Essentially they are a piece of software that works as a backbone and engine to run a website off, typically they have a built in text editor and as the name suggests are designed to assist you in managing your content. We use two such products as our staple 'engine', Joomla and Wordpress - the two biggest hitters in the industry.

Wordpress was built for ease of use in creating a blog - or weblog - a type of page that allows a user to format a website initially and then when blogging their thoughts and new articles go into a set location. This has developed into much more and is used by a huge number of websites looking to display content.

We typically choose to work with Joomla and have many years experience in configuring and optimising the software.

This is starting to sound complicated...

Actually the opposite is true. Granted, the software setup and configuration is much more complex than putting together a single page but the end result is a system that a client can operate without having to pay for a web designer to update their content. Each area of the site is built around a template with set positions, you want to add a new page? When you click save and publish it goes where it has been told it should. Getting to know the system is not as difficult as it would sound too, during the build of a new web project we create a test version of your site in a safe area to practice - if you mess it all up we just put it back to standard again for you to learn on - your other site is never affected by this.
